About
My name is Ian Campbell and I’m an LA based Digital Media Creative Director. I’ve been designing digital experiences for 12+ years and have recently finished up at the NFL. My role was Director of Creative, UI & UX. I managed a staff of 14+, and my responsibilities include NFL.com, NFL Mobile, NFL Clubs Platform (32 teams), NFL Events, Video Subscription Products, and several Marketing initiatives. In my spare time I develop concepts that help grass roots soccer utilize digital and social media. You can learn more about my professional background on Linkedin.
Background
I’m originally from Dublin, Ireland and have worked my way to the west coast with spells in Baltimore and Chicago. My adventure to the West coast began in 2007 with a position with the Internet TV service called Veoh Networks. Having helped launch VeohTV, I moved to the National Football League (NFL) to launch the Digital Media Group. Prior to that I enjoyed working in a variety of different digital environments: Start-up, In-House, Agency and eCommerce.
Here are a few of the clients I’ve had the privilege of working with: ABC, A&E TV, Accenture, Dow Corning, Dr Pepper Seven Up, ebay, Fifth Third Bank, Google, Hanes, Kellogg’s, KitchenAid, Kraft Foods, NBA, Newell Rubbermaid, NFL, Nokia, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, United Airlines, Time Life, Whirlpool, Washington Mutual, World Market and Xerox.
Portfolio
I have a few portfolio pieces in the portfolio section of this site. Some of them are a little dated now, but they demonstrate valuable lessons and experience. I’m unable to show any of my NFL work for what I hope are obvious reasons. I’ve always been a little bit of the hands-on type of Creative Director, and my preference is to only show work here that I have specifically designed (Versus the 100’s of projects that I’ve worked with excellent designers on). Please get in touch if you would like to see a more up-to-date portfolio.

What’s with this 4th Official name?
I’m very passionate about the game of soccer/football and like to use a light metaphor for my own site. A 4th Official is a football match official who assists a referee in a variety of tasks … he’s the guy that holds the screen up at the end of a game to tell you how much injury time will be played at the end of a game, and stops apposing managers from fighting with each other.
